These children became familiar faces to me because of my runs through their neighborhood near my housing compound outside of Riyadh. When I first arrived in Riyadh I was discouraged from running outside of the compound because of the conservative attitudes about men running in shorts. I didn't follow that advice, and eventually set up a marathon course that went into the center of Riyadh past the king's palace.
